So I have been madly engaged in my new role as trainer and facilitator for external "online delivery" of The Diploma of Community Services Coordination.
My biggest challenge so far is that it it not actually online learning or engagement. Its simply only online theory.
I have had huge resistance to online interaction from these students. I have set up a FB space for them to connect and only 2 from the 42 are actually using it.
It's made me review everything I have thought, on the flip side I have been supporting some of the teachers in my team to use their Ipads in the classroom, especially for capturing role play assessments. They are loving it, its working really well....
Maria this sounds a bit like the issues I am having with getting DC_LP people to set up a blog and then post... just the challenges we have... on the flip side I think that there are quite a few people out in the community who have heard negative things about face book and privacy etc. Perhaps if you want to draw them into the mix you might need to alleviate some of these issues with the group. Perhaps a nice friendly video/story/document getting them to share why they are nervous (quick survey monkey, wallwisher activity) and then reframe these into statements that minimise or answer their queries/worries. This might help?
ReplyDeleteIt would also be great to hear more about this ipad work with your team it sounds like it is a real winner. Thanks for sharing in your blog it is great to keep up to date with everything happening in your learning world
